Cookie Currency (Week 8)

What if all currency was replaced with cookies. More valuable cookies have more value and worth while cheap cookies are low forms of cash. Freshness and condition of the cookies also plays a role in the value (fresh, condition=value)

If all currency was replaced with cookies, there would be some mistakes. Generally, the wealthier countries now will have the ingredients to make all of the cookies. Some countries might make too much and some might not make enough. If there are too many cookies, there’s no turning back. The economy would be ruined due to the lack of value in the cookies. The value would be so low because there would so many cookies that it is common to have lots of them.

If there are not enough cookies and the country is still wealthy, all is not lost. All the country has to do is make more cookies. The effect that the small amount of cookies has on the country is bad and good. It would be bad because it would be so hard to make money (cookies). It would be good because the value of each cookie would be very high. If I was in charge, and if the cookie currency were a thing, then I would make sure there would be the perfect amount of cookies in order to keep the economy stable.

My Writing Center Experience (week 8)

I had a great experience at the writing center on Tuesday. My writing fellow, Chima Mbagwu, helped out with my paper a lot. I was confused on lots of things such as: quotes, the introduction, the conclusion, and my thesis. I also put extra spaces in between paragraphs that weren't supposed to be there, which affected the length of my paper. So, we had to add some quotes and details to my introduction and my supporting paragraphs.

We noticed that most of my quotations were incorrect and we fixed them. The type of detail we added were quotes and referring back to my thesis in the supporting paragraphs. We ended up adding enough detail to make the paper go slightly over three pages. I found that the writing center was the most beneficial source other than Dr. D. If we ever write another paper this year, I plan on going there to help me successfully write my paper.

Literary Analysis Process

I have found that writing this Literary Analysis is not an easy task for me. One of the things that has been difficult for me is developing the introduction. I know what I want to say I just don't know the best was to say it. It took me a long time to start it on paper. To get help with how to start I had to look at examples of other introductions on Canvas. That was very helpful but I still had to work hard to get it done.
The part of the process that was easier for me was the body of the paper. Working hard on the outline made developing each paragraph easier. The outline was the guideline for developing the main parts of each supporting point. I could come up with lots of different arguable points to support my thesis but what was difficult for me was picking which ones were best and when to write about them. Once the introduction was done and the outline was complete the rest of the process was easier.

Free Post Too Many Birthdays

In my family there are too many birthdays too close together. With the exception of my mother everyone in my house, including the pets, has a birthday within about a two week period. The birthday time in my house begins with my sister Chloe, her birthday is October 29th. My birthday is next, I was born November 7th. My baby sister, Sophie, was born November 8th. Last my dad's birthday is November 13th.
So here is how that works at my house. Chloe expects a celebration thought the whole week of her birthday.   She usually gets the special birthday treatment she demands. That celebration ends about the time my birthday arrives, sometimes not even then. But by November 8th my birthday is over. Baby sister Sophie's celebration begins and it lasts until my dad's birthday. There are too many birthdays too close together in my family. And trust me you don't want to be in the middle like me.

Larry and Barry Week 6

Larry and Barry are best friends. Larry is a collector and likes to collect things found at the beach. One day, Larry and Barry were walking down the street at Barry’s parents summer condominium in Kansas. The boys had been worn there was a giant snake on the loose in the area. There were signs and it was on the news everywhere. Everyone locked themselves indoors because it was just too risky.

One night, Barry and Larry decided to sneak out and explore the outdoors. This was a bad idea. Especially because Larry had his favorite shark tooth necklace that was worth tons of money. The boys were messing around and of course they stumbled upon the giant snake. This snake was a 20 foot long Boa Constrictor that was ready to strike at any moment. The enormous Boa lung forward in Barry’s direction and started constricting him. Larry didn't know what to do. If he called for help it would've been too late. Larry then remembered he was wearing his favorite shark tooth necklace. This tooth was from a Megladon and worth a couple billion dollars. Larry had to think quick. Barry was about to die and was screaming a horrifying scream. Larry then ripped his necklace off of his neck and started stabbing the exotic snake and killed it. Barry was still alive and was so grateful for Larry. The boys then both noticed that the necklace wasn't damaged. Larry decided to give the necklace to Barry the necklace to remember what saved his life, but Barry politely informed Larry that it was he who saved Barry’s life, not the necklace.

The ancient Megladon tooth necklace represents friendship. Larry could have let his best friend Barry die and could've had a possibility of the necklace being destroyed forever.

How to Kill a deer week 6

In order to kill a deer you must have property and it has to be deer season. Hunting out of season or on someone else’s property is illegal. Second, you must have camouflage. You don't need camouflage, but if you want to increase your chances you must wear it. You also need to have some type of legal weapon that can kill a deer along with the ammunition, Rifles, Bows, Crossbows, and Shotguns may all work. Once you have property, camouflage, and a weapon, you need to find a place to set up a stand. There are many different types of stands like tree stands, tripods, box stands, and ground blinds. Find which one works for you. Once you have all the thing you need to make sure your weapon is sighted in. Now, all you need to do is set out corn for the deer. There and automatic feeders, gravity feeders, or you could just put the corn on the ground.

When you have completed all of this, its time to hunt. If you plan to hunt in the morning, you need to get into the stand before sunrise. If you don't like waking up early, you should get in the stand at about 3:00. Once you get into the stand, you need to be as quiet as possible and just wait for the deer to come out. If you followed everything that was stated above, then you will  most likely have a successful hunt. If you have a 4 year old buck or doe with no fawns in your field you can shoot. The way you tell the age is the snout and stomach size. You aim for the heart or lungs and slowly squeeze the trigger.

Close NFL Week (Week 4 2Q)

Last week in the NFL, there were some upsets. The best team, the Vikings, lost to the Eagles. The game was controlled by defenses and it was fun to watch. Another bad game was the Cardinals vs. Seahawks. This game was also a defensive game. This game wasn't fun to watch and went into over time.

On the first drives, both teams kicked a field goal and it was 6-6. The very next drive, when the clock was running out, the Cardinals attempted to kick a field goal and got it blocked. After that, the Seahawks kicker went to kick the ball and missed it as the last seconds rolled off the clock. Overtime was over and no one won. This wasn't a good game to watch at all. I stayed up late to watch someone win and no one did.

LOTF passage week 4 Q2

The world, that understandable and lawful world, was slipping away.  Once there was this and that; and now--and the ship had gone. [... Jack refusing to give Piggy the floor when he has the conch...]
"The rules!" shouted Ralph.  "You're breaking the rules!"
"Who cares?"
Ralph summoned his wits.
"Because the rules are the only thing we've got!"
But Jack was shouting against him.
"Bollocks to the rules!  We're strong--we hunt!  If there's a beast, we'll hunt it down!  We'll close in and beat and beat and beat—!”

I chose this passage because its very significant to the book. Its significant because the rules play a big factor throughout it. At first, Ralph is the leader and creates a ton of rules that Jack doesn't want to do. Jack just doesn't listen and decides to hunt instead. All of the kids see how Jack is living, and that they don't want to follow Ralph’s rules. They decide to break off and follow Jack.

If Ralph would makes things a little more relaxed around the camp, the kids wouldn't have switched to go with Ralph. The kids are so young and naive, they don't know Ralph’s rules will help them in the long run. If I were on the island, I would've followed Ralph because his rules are a lot smarter. I would have also chosen to create my own tribe.

Thanksgiving Break

This year, I have no idea where I'm going for Thanksgiving. We always know where were going, but not this year. We've been to Italy, New York, and Rosemary Beach. We’re either going to Destin or Rosemary beach.

Id rather go to Destin because of the fishing purposes. I think the fishings a lot better on the beach. Its also not as crowded there. Ive caught Redfish, Pompano, and Sharks off the beach in Destin. Rosemary beach is also very cool because it has a Bocce Ball tournament.

Important Scene LOTF

One important scene from LOTF was when Simon talked to the pig. This was the climax of the book. Simon runs away to his favorite hide away, The kids don't know he's there and put a pig head on a stick in front of Simon.

The pig was foreshadowing Simon’s death. He told Simon, “He’d  better not tell anyone back at camp.” Now the peaceful pig’s head in turned into evil on a stick. This is a very important scene because the title came from it and it foreshadowed a main character’s death. Simon ended up getting killed anyway.

LOTF

In Lord of The Flies we are just getting introduced to new characters like Ralph and Piggy. Ralph is an immature kid that can be very annoying at times. Piggy is a big fat guy. He gets made fun of a lot.

Piggy and Ralph get stuck on an island with their schools. Most of the kids were around 12 years old. There were tons of different schools like band school and choir school. Ralph is elected to be the leader but is very immature. He ends up being  pretty good leader and creates rules. All of the sudden, a fire starts on the island and there is a missing kid. I am very curious to see how Ralph takes care of this and how other kids, like Piggy, react to this.

Human Nature

Human nature is the way people are programmed to act. I think humans are fundamentally flawed. I think society has an effect on the way people choose to behave. People want what they can’t have.

In the Bible, Adam and Eve were told by God to not eat fruits off of a certain tree. They were in a place where there were fruits everywhere and only couldn't eat from one tree. God had warned them not to eat it, but Adam and Eve really wanted to. The Devil then came and tempted them and they ate the fruits.

The Batboy

This week in “The Batboy” Brian sleeps at Comerica Park and lives out his dream. Finn and Brian sleep on the couches in the clubhouse and Brian sneaks out onto the field. He dreams of hitting a home run and runs the bases. He does everything Hank Bishop does because he's Brian’s idol. The next morning, Hank is very mean to Brain because the coffee Brian made wasn't good enough for him.

I feel happy and sad for Brian. Im happy for him because he got to live his dream and sleep in the clubhouse. I feel sad for Brian because his idol still hates him. I still think it’s awesome that Brian met his idol. Some people don’t even see theirs in person.

Fall Break

I spent this Fall Break at my camp in Woodville, Mississippi. After the Episcopal football game at Northeast High School, I went straight to Woodville, MS from Pride, LA. It took us about an hour to get there and we arrived at around 12:00. I told everyone hello and went straight to bed. I was ready to hunt in the morning.

I woke up at 6:00 the next morning and went hunting. My dad and I walked up on 4 does in my field and scared them away. I didn't see anything for the rest of the hunt. That afternoon, I went hunting in the same field. My dad and I had set out corn before we went out that day and we put the corn out pretty close to our stand. The first four deer came out there were three fawns and a doe. I kept hearing rustling in the woods and I thought it was a buck, so I waited and the deer ran away.

Then, the same deer ended up coming back 30 minutes later for about 10 minutes and ran away again. Then, a doe came by itself. It was 20 yards away. I took a deep breath and squeezed the trigger. I had killed my first deer with my crossbow.

Gerrymandering

The Week Staff talks about a way to rig elections legally. This method is called gerrymandering. Gerrymandering refers to the process of redrawing voting districts for political advantage. This is called “gerrymandering” because it was named after Elbridge Gerry, a governor from Massachusetts who redrew state level district lines in 1812 to keep his party dominant in the state legislature.  This tactic is used by both Democrats and Republicans.

When a candidate gerrymanders, they have to be running on a consensus year, which is every ten years. Before the election, the candidates reinvent, or redraw the voting districts. This allows the lesser populated districts voting count for more because there are less people. This happened in Texas and Colorado and this increased Republican representation. In Florida, the people voted to put a stop to this. The people did not want to give anyone unfair advantages. I agree to this decision, but unfortunately, nothing has been done to stop it. The Florida voting has just made this a bigger deal.

It is my belief that gerrymandering is a problem and needs to be solved to create fair and balanced voting districts. Elections should be won on the popular vote and not decided by politicians before election day. I think this should be illegal and I think the people should get to vote for who they want, not the politicians themselves. There are other ways to win elections  besides “gerrymandering” which is, in my opinion, cheating.

Cardinals

For free writing this week, I chose to write about the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals have been one of my favorite NFL teams since I was in 1st grade. In 1st grade, my father and I supported them the entire season. That year, they ended up losing in the Super Bowl to the Pittsburgh Steelers. I still liked the Cardinals throughout my childhood and when my favorite LSU player, Patrick Peterson, got drafted to go there I began to love them.

In fourth grade, my family and I went to the Grand Canyon for Thanksgiving. While we were there I couldn't stop begging my parents to bring me to a game. My dad and I really wanted to go, and we ended up going. The Arizona Cardinals played against the St. Louis Rams, an NFC  west showdown. The Cardinals ended up winning big and Patrick Peterson got an interception. After the game Patrick gave me his jersey and gloves he had worn that game. We then went to go eat with him after. It was the greatest night of my life.

Batboy 6

This week in “The Batboy”, Brian was doing his regular job in Comerica Park. This time ignoring Hank Bishop, Brian was not trying to please him anymore. Even though Hank was mean, Brain still idolized him. During the game, Hank hit a walk off home run. After, Willie talked to Brian and the other batboy about how Hank is still mean to everyone. Brian went to get $40 worth of food at McDonald’s for Willie and he ate everything. He then tipped Brian $20.

I feel bad for Brian because his idol doesn’t like him. If I were in this situation I wouldn't like Hank at all. I might have even quit the job as the batboy. I think Hank is just being a jerk because he thinks he's amazing because he plays in the major leagues. He's just not a humble guy and no one likes him.

Harrison Bergeron

Harrison Bergeron” is a weird story. I find all dystopian fiction to be weird, but not this weird. This story reminds me of “The Giver” because its so messed up and twisted. I thought the first story we read was weird, but this one is even weirder. Its about a boy named Harrison Bergeron. He lives a messed up society where everyone is brought down to the same IQ level. Everyone is really stupid except for Harrison. He has a plan to take over the government with a random girl. H describes it like they will be the king and queen.

Matt

When he was a kid, Matt was sitting in his bed watching TV. He had on “Auction Hunters” and was trying to go to sleep. He knew he should turn the TV off, but he wanted to watch the end of the show.  Matt loved “Auction Hunters” so much, that this inspired him to do this himself someday. Matt became one of the best hunters in the state of Louisiana. This was measured by how much money he made, and he is currently 4th in the state with 1.4 million dollars. Next year he is hoping that he will be number one. He knows there is a big auction next year with the top 10 hunters. Matt can’t wait and then figures out its next week. He had plans to go out of town, but now must cancel. Matt has been planning for his vacation for 10 years with his entire family to Italy. He finally scrounged up enough money to pay for the trip, but then had to cancel for the big hunt. Matt waited until the day finally came. When Matt got there, he noticed the building was just a big pile of ashes. The building had burned down and the auction was canceled. Matt was devastated.

The Batboy By: Mike Lupica Week 4

This week, I read “The Batboy” by: Mike Lupica. This week, Brian Dudley, the main character, was doing his job as the batboy for the Tigers and also played for his team in a four-game series. Nothing really happened at the Tigers game, but during his baseball game, he got the walk-off hit. He had won the game for his team.

I am happy for Brian because Hank Bishop, his idol, had been really mean to him. This was an opportunity for Brian to bounce back. Now Brian is confident and isn't worrying about Hank. Brian is a loyal person because he still likes Hank Bishop after he was being a jerk to him.

Dear 5 Year Old Week 4

Dear 5 year old,

Don't complain about nap time. You will miss it in the future and will regret not using it. I know I never used my nap time and I miss it. When you get older, you will be tired all the time. I always used to go home and complain to my mom.I said that I hate nap time and that its useless.

Trust me, its not useless. I wish I had it now because I have such long days at school. Sometimes, I just need a break.

Sincerely,

14 year old

9/11 week 3

This week, I read an article on 9/11. It was about a firefighter who was trying to save peoples lives from the 9/11 accident in New York City. This guy was walking around looking for people, and he saw someone dead and carried them out. It was one of the other firefighters helping people. The main guy was carrying out all the remains of people. He would gather anything that belonged to the victims and try to bring them to their owners to have something to remember them by.

I think the firefighters and everyone who helped out were great people and it really showed their character. I also feel bad for the victims and their loved ones. They suffered a very big loss in their life and it happened so fast.

The Batboy week 3

This week I read “The Batboy” by: Mike Lupica. The main character, Brian Dudley applies for the job of the batboy for the Detroit Tigers and gets the job. Then, Brian’s favorite player joins the Tigers after a suspension. Brian is so excited to meet his favorite player. When Brian meets him, the guy turns out to be a big jerk. Brian still likes him, but still has a bad image.

I fee bad for Brian. All he wanted was to be the batboy. He didn't want to get chewed out by his favorite player ever. Brian is living a tough life, but yet is still a great, positive person.

Friday Night (Week 2)

Friday night, I played in the varsity football game. We were beating Christian Life very badly. It was the 4th quarter and at this point, Christian Life had given up. Coach Bourgeois decided to put in all the players that didn't start, or haven't been in. This included the freshman.

I went in for 5 plays at cornerback and I did pretty well. When the running back came to my side of the field, I forced him inside. I also got off the block every time. On offense, I played wide receiver. I played well there as well. I blocked the cornerback every time, preventing him from stopping the run. We ended up beating Christian Life 47-14.

"The Batboy" (Week 2)

The book I am reading this week is called “The Batboy” By: Mike Lupica. So far, I really like this book. Its sad because the main character, Brian Dudley’s, dad left he and his mom. His father played Major League Baseball for multiple teams and was great. I really feel bad for Brian and his mother. They feel alone right now and Brian is at a critical age where he needs a man to look up to.

Right now, Brian is trying to get a job as the batboy for the Detroit Tigers. This is something he's dreamed about. Brian has also applied for the job in the past. Last time, Brian wasn't old enough for the job. He waited a year and finally applied again.

My Summer (week 1)

This summer, I had a blast. I went to Cocodrie, Louisiana, Destin, Florida and Jackson Hole, Wyoming. While in Destin, I fished, swam, and played golf. In Cocodrie, I went fishing and in Jackson Hole, I fished, played golf, and white-water rafted.

In Cocodrie, I went fishing with my cousins, uncles, and dad. We went with Haydel Charters about 60 miles off shore. We went fishing for Lemon fish, Black Fin Tuna, and Red Snapper. Our guide told us whoever caught the most fish gets a free t- shirt. I was ready to win that shirt but, I had tied with one of my cousins. We both got a t-shirt and I ate a Tuna eye ball. Everyone was happy.

In Destin, I went fishing off of the shore with some friends. We were hoping to catch some Pompano or Redfish but, we caught a total 14 Lemon sharks. We also played golf at a local par 3 course. It was a very easy course and the teams were my cousins and I vs. my dad and uncle. The kids won and my dad and uncle had to serve us supper that night.

In Jackson Hole, I went fishing on a creek that ran behind our house. The creek only consisted of Cutthroat Trout, the native species of trout in Wyoming. In total I caught around 22 Cutthroats. My family and I also played golf. The course was so beautiful in the mountains. The teams were my dad, and 2 uncles vs me, my 2 cousins, and grandfather and we won! We shot a 76 and it was the best round of golf I have ever played.

The Blind Side (Week 1)

What I liked most about The Blind Side by: Michael Lewis, is the way Leigh Anne Touhy kindly accepts Michael Oher into her house to live with her and her family. Michael grew up in a bad area in Tennessee. He didn't even sleep on a bed or have his own room before the Touhys allows him to come in. Leigh Anne had bought Michael clothes, a bed, food, and everything that was essential to survive.

The things Leigh Anne and her family did for Michael were very touching. I don't know if I would take in a random person into my house and take care of them. This really shows how good of people the Touhys are.
