Harrison Bergeron

Harrison Bergeron” is a weird story. I find all dystopian fiction to be weird, but not this weird. This story reminds me of “The Giver” because its so messed up and twisted. I thought the first story we read was weird, but this one is even weirder. Its about a boy named Harrison Bergeron. He lives a messed up society where everyone is brought down to the same IQ level. Everyone is really stupid except for Harrison. He has a plan to take over the government with a random girl. H describes it like they will be the king and queen.

Matt

When he was a kid, Matt was sitting in his bed watching TV. He had on “Auction Hunters” and was trying to go to sleep. He knew he should turn the TV off, but he wanted to watch the end of the show.  Matt loved “Auction Hunters” so much, that this inspired him to do this himself someday. Matt became one of the best hunters in the state of Louisiana. This was measured by how much money he made, and he is currently 4th in the state with 1.4 million dollars. Next year he is hoping that he will be number one. He knows there is a big auction next year with the top 10 hunters. Matt can’t wait and then figures out its next week. He had plans to go out of town, but now must cancel. Matt has been planning for his vacation for 10 years with his entire family to Italy. He finally scrounged up enough money to pay for the trip, but then had to cancel for the big hunt. Matt waited until the day finally came. When Matt got there, he noticed the building was just a big pile of ashes. The building had burned down and the auction was canceled. Matt was devastated.

The Batboy By: Mike Lupica Week 4

This week, I read “The Batboy” by: Mike Lupica. This week, Brian Dudley, the main character, was doing his job as the batboy for the Tigers and also played for his team in a four-game series. Nothing really happened at the Tigers game, but during his baseball game, he got the walk-off hit. He had won the game for his team.

I am happy for Brian because Hank Bishop, his idol, had been really mean to him. This was an opportunity for Brian to bounce back. Now Brian is confident and isn't worrying about Hank. Brian is a loyal person because he still likes Hank Bishop after he was being a jerk to him.

Dear 5 Year Old Week 4

Dear 5 year old,

Don't complain about nap time. You will miss it in the future and will regret not using it. I know I never used my nap time and I miss it. When you get older, you will be tired all the time. I always used to go home and complain to my mom.I said that I hate nap time and that its useless.

Trust me, its not useless. I wish I had it now because I have such long days at school. Sometimes, I just need a break.

Sincerely,

14 year old

9/11 week 3

This week, I read an article on 9/11. It was about a firefighter who was trying to save peoples lives from the 9/11 accident in New York City. This guy was walking around looking for people, and he saw someone dead and carried them out. It was one of the other firefighters helping people. The main guy was carrying out all the remains of people. He would gather anything that belonged to the victims and try to bring them to their owners to have something to remember them by.

I think the firefighters and everyone who helped out were great people and it really showed their character. I also feel bad for the victims and their loved ones. They suffered a very big loss in their life and it happened so fast.

The Batboy week 3

This week I read “The Batboy” by: Mike Lupica. The main character, Brian Dudley applies for the job of the batboy for the Detroit Tigers and gets the job. Then, Brian’s favorite player joins the Tigers after a suspension. Brian is so excited to meet his favorite player. When Brian meets him, the guy turns out to be a big jerk. Brian still likes him, but still has a bad image.

I fee bad for Brian. All he wanted was to be the batboy. He didn't want to get chewed out by his favorite player ever. Brian is living a tough life, but yet is still a great, positive person.

Friday Night (Week 2)

Friday night, I played in the varsity football game. We were beating Christian Life very badly. It was the 4th quarter and at this point, Christian Life had given up. Coach Bourgeois decided to put in all the players that didn't start, or haven't been in. This included the freshman.

I went in for 5 plays at cornerback and I did pretty well. When the running back came to my side of the field, I forced him inside. I also got off the block every time. On offense, I played wide receiver. I played well there as well. I blocked the cornerback every time, preventing him from stopping the run. We ended up beating Christian Life 47-14.

"The Batboy" (Week 2)

The book I am reading this week is called “The Batboy” By: Mike Lupica. So far, I really like this book. Its sad because the main character, Brian Dudley’s, dad left he and his mom. His father played Major League Baseball for multiple teams and was great. I really feel bad for Brian and his mother. They feel alone right now and Brian is at a critical age where he needs a man to look up to.

Right now, Brian is trying to get a job as the batboy for the Detroit Tigers. This is something he's dreamed about. Brian has also applied for the job in the past. Last time, Brian wasn't old enough for the job. He waited a year and finally applied again.

My Summer (week 1)

This summer, I had a blast. I went to Cocodrie, Louisiana, Destin, Florida and Jackson Hole, Wyoming. While in Destin, I fished, swam, and played golf. In Cocodrie, I went fishing and in Jackson Hole, I fished, played golf, and white-water rafted.

In Cocodrie, I went fishing with my cousins, uncles, and dad. We went with Haydel Charters about 60 miles off shore. We went fishing for Lemon fish, Black Fin Tuna, and Red Snapper. Our guide told us whoever caught the most fish gets a free t- shirt. I was ready to win that shirt but, I had tied with one of my cousins. We both got a t-shirt and I ate a Tuna eye ball. Everyone was happy.

In Destin, I went fishing off of the shore with some friends. We were hoping to catch some Pompano or Redfish but, we caught a total 14 Lemon sharks. We also played golf at a local par 3 course. It was a very easy course and the teams were my cousins and I vs. my dad and uncle. The kids won and my dad and uncle had to serve us supper that night.

In Jackson Hole, I went fishing on a creek that ran behind our house. The creek only consisted of Cutthroat Trout, the native species of trout in Wyoming. In total I caught around 22 Cutthroats. My family and I also played golf. The course was so beautiful in the mountains. The teams were my dad, and 2 uncles vs me, my 2 cousins, and grandfather and we won! We shot a 76 and it was the best round of golf I have ever played.

The Blind Side (Week 1)

What I liked most about The Blind Side by: Michael Lewis, is the way Leigh Anne Touhy kindly accepts Michael Oher into her house to live with her and her family. Michael grew up in a bad area in Tennessee. He didn't even sleep on a bed or have his own room before the Touhys allows him to come in. Leigh Anne had bought Michael clothes, a bed, food, and everything that was essential to survive.

The things Leigh Anne and her family did for Michael were very touching. I don't know if I would take in a random person into my house and take care of them. This really shows how good of people the Touhys are.
